Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups walnut halves & pieces net wt (about 4.4 oz)
  • 11 oz raw honey (net wt)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Jars: Make sure your glass jars and lids are thoroughly clean and dried completely.
  • Prepare the walnuts: (raw or toasted): You can use raw walnuts or lightly toast them for extra flavor.
Toast in a dry skillet on the stove or in a 350°F oven for 5–7 minutes, until fragrant. Let them cool completely before adding them to the jars.
  • Fill the jars: Add the cooled walnuts to the jars without packing them too tightly. Leave a little room at the top.
  • Add the honey: Slowly pour honey over the walnuts, giving it time to work its way into the spaces between the pieces. Add enough honey to thoroughly coat the walnuts.
  • Remove air bubbles: Gently tap the jar on the counter or slide a chopstick or skewer down the sides to release trapped air.
  • Cover and store: Wipe the rims clean and add the lids. Keep the jars tightly covered and store in a cool, dry place. For longer storage, I prefer to keep my honey walnuts in the refrigerator.

Notes

Notes
* The amount of honey needed will vary depending on the size and shape of your jars. I used small jelly jars and had enough for three.
* Lightly toasted walnuts add extra flavor and crunch. Be sure they are completely cool before adding them to the honey.
* Walnuts naturally float in honey. Turn the closed jar over occasionally to help keep them coated.
* Always use a clean, dry utensil when removing walnuts from the jar.
* Honey becomes thicker when refrigerated. Let the jar sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving if needed.
* Nutrition information is an estimate. Serving size is approximately 1 heaping teaspoon, or 1/2 ounce.
